Reading Habits

1. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack? Not as a general rule unless I haven’t experienced nourishment for a long spell.

2. What is your favorite drink while reading? Tea. Although it’s my favorite drink for just about any time of the day.

3. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you? The idea is usually a deplorable act, but there is a copy of Uncle Tom’s Cabin that I own which is falling apart and I find that it’s not such a problem to mark favorite passages.

4. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ear? Laying the book flat open? Bookmarks are my main method of choice but sometimes I’ll lie them open down. It depends on the book, but I never do that with books that I borrow from friends.

5. Fiction, Non-Fiction, or Both? I choose both because I do like to read non-fiction from time to time.

6. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere? I can stop anywhere, but I like to try and read to the end of a chapter.

7. Are you a person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you? I have yet to do this, but some authors try me a great deal.

8. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away? If I can’t decipher what it means from the context it is used, I am apt to pull down my dictionary.

9. What are you currently reading? Shine by Lauren Myracle

10. What is the last book you bought? The Wolf King by Alice Borchardt and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

11. Are you a person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one? I can read more than one book at a time, but I’m trying to break myself of the habit and work on reading one book at a time.

12. Do you have a favorite time/place to read? At the moment the best source of light to read by is found in my bedroom so I tend to curl up with a tome in there.

13. Do you prefer series books or stand-alones? I prefer stand-alone books because so often I find that series fail to live up to their opening volume.

14. Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over? I seem to find myself recommending The Historian a lot.

15. How do you organize your books? By genre, title, author’s last name, etc? I have my books currently organized by author’s last name, but the classics are all grouped together so that’s really the only whim I have as far as “genre” goes except for separation of fiction and non-fiction.

  1. I have thrown books across the room and/or into the nearest trash can. But only the ones who really deserved it.

I hope to one day have a logical organisational system for my library. Right now, I stuff books in wherever they will fit.

  2. Tea and books do go wonderfully together! But then again tea goes with everything, like you said 😛

I’m also more careful with friend’s or library copies of books than with my own. I don’t lie them open but I am occasionally guilty of marking favourite passages (always in pencil though).
